He was predeceased by: his parents, John C. Tharp Sr. and Evelyn Tharp (McGarvey); his wife Mary Tharp; and his grandsons, William Richard Goddard and Isaiah Carlton Hardin.
He is survived by: his children, John Carlton III Tharp (Kelli) of Cedar City, UT, Laura G. Conrad (Josh) of Stockport, IA, Melanie A. Byrd (Brad Harper) of Troy, OH, Mary K. Tharp (Buddy) of Troy, OH and Deborah R. Cantrell of Troy, OH; and his siblings, Evelyn Fowler (Jim) of New Carlisle, OH and Charles Tharp of Mesa, AZ.. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren.
