As John Garland departs from our midst, his spirit ascends to join the cosmic dance of stars, a shimmering constellation of memories that will forever grace the night sky of the hearts of those who loved John Garland. Though John Garland may no longer walk beside us, his legacy lives on — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of time and space.
He was predeceased by: his parents, John Arthur Schlaht and Gladys Tegland. He is survived by: his wife Sharon Lynne; his children, Kyle John of Grinnell and Tara Lynne Klein (Matthew) of Urbandale; and his grandchildren, Addison Klein, William Klein of Urbandale and Steven Thompson of Grinnell.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 11th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the McLaren's Chapel (801 19th St, West Des Moines, IA 50265). A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 14th 2025 from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the Salem Lutheran Church (602 W Townline St, Creston, IA 50801).
Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Red Cross or WesleyLife Hospice who provided wonderful care and support so that he could remain in his home during the last two months of his life.
