He was predeceased by: his mother Joyce Harless. He is survived by: his wife Sara; his stepchildren, Marc Schlaf and Katherine Schlaf (Kat); his grandchildren, Nate Schlaf, Jackson Hird and Freyja Hird; his father William Harless (Bill); and his siblings, David Harless and Linda Akwa. He is also survived by aunts, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family requests no flowers, and instead, requests donations be made to the Patient Scholarship Fund at the Wesleylife Dahl Adult Day Center, where Michael was a participant for eight years.
