He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Dawson and Hessie Dawson; his wife Ruth York; and his brothers, Harold, Jerold, Arthur "Art" and Lawrence "Larry" Dawson.

He is survived by: his children, Sharon Hensen (Terry), Irma Johnson, Diana Whitted (JR), Jim Dawson (Dena), Loretta Wilson (Ron) and Becky Bair (Stanley); and his sister Irene Chapman. He is also survived by his 6 children, 21 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and some great-great-grandchildren.
