He was predeceased by: his parents, Nathan and Mamie; and his brothers, Wayne, Clayton, Wendell and Reed.
He is survived by: his wife Lynda; his children, Hayley Patterson (Jason), Blake Merrill (Joyce), Marci Jensen (Nick), Whit Merrill (Keren) and Clint Merrill; and his siblings, Louis Merrill (Karen), Phyllis Johnson (Larry), Stanley Merrill (Margret), Lamont Merrill (Denise) and Cristeen Kinghorn (Scott). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren.
