She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Annie J. Swainston and John E. Swainston; her siblings, Delma, Fern and Jack; her husband Garland W. Herd; and her children, Judy (Joseph Nielson), Kathy (Craig Nielson), Diane (Steven Drury) and Scott (Ann Burnham). She was also cherished by 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
