She was predeceased by: her parents, Nelson Powell and Clara Mae Powell; and her husband Vallee Carter Sr.. She is survived by: her children, Josephine Griffith (Herb) of Mayfield, KY, Mary Carter (Bob), Calvin Morrow (Shirley), Brenda Shaylor (Steve), Vallee Carter, Jr. (Judy) and Dianna Carter. She is also survived by eight step-children; many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
