It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Arthur Slates (Champaign, Illinois), born in Newport News, Virginia, who passed away on October 28, 2018, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Elizabeth and Booker T. Slates; his son Gary Slates; and his siblings, Bukhari Abdul-Raim, Charles Slates, William Slates, Mary Carter and Shirley Delacruz.
He is survived by: his spouse Evelyn Kathleen Slates (Abernathy); his children, Mark Slates Edmond (Lisa), Valeri Kearney, Yvonne Walters, Angela Slates and Kelly Hardin; and his sisters, Rachel White, Franklinton, Barbara Williams and Middletown. He is also survived by 19 Grandchildren, 30 Great Grandchildren with an additional one arriving March 2019, a Great Great Grandchild arriving in April 2019, and a host of treasured Nieces and Nephews.
