He was predeceased by: his parents, Otis Highfill and Ruth Highfill; and his siblings, Eddie Highfill, Ruby Dale and Beulah Alhands.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley; his children, Thomas Alexander, Pamella Horn, Tina Underwood, Shelly Highfill and Lorri Yeoward (Scott); his grandchildren, Nick Wilkins, Tera Garrett, Cortney Highfill, Tiffany Murphy, Adam Hardy, Dylan Whitehead, Taylor Alexander and Jesse Alexander; and his great grandchildren, Preston Wilkins, Parker Wilkins, Tinley Garrett, Iva Philbeck, Brendan Murphy-Hubert, Kiyre Murphy, Deonta Hill, Jurrien Hill and Addilyn Hardy.
A celebration of Gene's life will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 11am with a short public viewing one hour prior from 10-11am at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 710 N. Neil St. Champaign IL. 61820 Visitation will be held on Monday, July 2, 2018 from 5-7pm at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 710 N. Neil St. Champaign IL. 61820 In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in Gene's name to Mahomet Christian Church in Mahomet IL.
