He was predeceased by: his parents, John Hicks and Erna Hicks; his in-laws, Carl and Ida Gutberlet; his sister Elaine; and his daughter Kirsten.

He is survived by: his wife Frances Lucy; his children, Brian (Renee), Deirdre (Tom) and Birgit (Guillaume); and his grandchildren, Siobhan, Olivia, Maia, Nina, Isabelle, Mateo and Chloe.
