He was predeceased by: his parents, V. G. Howald and Mary E. Howald (Phelps). He is survived by: his wife Trudy Taylor; his children, Derek Howald (Leanne) of Chillicothe, Natalie Howald of Middleton, WI, Andrea Karr (Adam) of East Peoria and Samra Molleck (Jeff) of Chillicothe; his grandchildren, Nathan, Cooper, Jaime, Emily, Ashley, Seth, Kyah, Max and Adalyn; and his sister Susan Hahn (Roy) of Lenexa, KS.
