She was predeceased by: her parents, Denzel Sandberg and Loretta Sandberg; and her brother Kelly Sandberg (Jill). She is survived by: her daughters, Kelsey Vice (Cory) and Klansey Benzinger (Jason); her granddaughter Rowynn Loretta Benzinger; and her siblings, Kurt Sandberg and Kim Kowalski (Dale). She is also survived by nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family is collecting donations to put towards Karen's permanent memorial marker.
