He was predeceased by: his grandfather Charles Hayek; and his stepgrandfather Peter Chadwick. He is survived by: his parents, Anne Schmidt and Robert Schmidt; his brothers, Christopher Schmidt (Jessica) and Anthony Schmidt (Anne Appel); his grandparents, Nancy Chadwick, Karl and Josephine Schmidt; his aunts, Judy Kanka (Richard) and Mary Olsen (Patrick); his uncle Michael Hayek (Sue); and his pet Waylon. He is also survived by three nieces, one nephew.

Memorials may be made to any Rescue Shelter of the donor's choice.
