He was predeceased by: his parents, Reuben Amendt and Ruby Amendt (Stumbaugh); his brother Terry; and his parents-in-law, Victor and Charlene Wells.

He is survived by: his wife Jean Amendt; his children, Derek Amendt (Julie Skaggs) of Union, IL, Ryan Amendt (Susan) of Eleroy, IL and Timothy Amendt of Eleroy, IL.; his grandchildren, Christopher Amendt (Annie), Erin Amendt, Max Amendt, Molly Amendt and Brody Amendt; and his sister Cheryl Thyberg (Mike).

A memorial has been established in Gary's memory.
