He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Wilson and Dorothy Wilson (Black); and his son Daniel. He is survived by: his wife Velma Mae VanDyke August; his daughters, Pamela Welt (James) of Freeport, Robin Linder (Arthur) of Virginia and Jodie Schoch of Freeport; and his grandchildren, Jason Alexander, Christopher Jones, Tammy Guinn, Myles Welt, Daniel Wilson Jr., Tanner Schoch, Holly Schoch and Brady Schoch. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established in Harpo's memory.
