He was predeceased by: his son Gerald Schmidt; and his siblings, Robert Schmidt and Elaine Scobell. He is survived by: his spouses, Emma Reed and Judy Schmidt of Irving, IL; his children, Rick Schmidt, David Schmidt, Jim Schmidt, Michael Schmidt, Gail Fray and Lori Rathbun; and his stepchildren, Harley Root, Todd Kennedy and Reeda Bundy. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
