He was predeceased by: his parents, Willard Mathews and Gertrude Mathews (Herchenroeder); and his siblings, Richard, Thomas Mathews and Ruth Jun.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Catherine Zipprich; his children, Charles Mathews (Dede), Michael Mathews (Geri), Diana Taylor (Kenny) and Judy Duniphan; and his sisters, Dorothy Boren (Herman) and Carol Martinez. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
