He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, George Birk and Nellie Birk (Stanley); his wife Sandra "Sandy" Thomas of Lincoln, IL; his son George Birk of Bridgewater, MA; his grandchildren, Bethany Anderson, Kim Wernsing (Wil), Phil Mahan (Jamie), Tim Mahan, Kelly Ann Mahan, Shane Birk and Kelly Jo Rauschek; his great grandchildren, CJ, Jaclyn, Austin, Brycen, Carson, Nora, Allie, Wesley and Lydia; and his daughters, Cindy Koerner, Debra J. Steve and Teresa Gail Reebel.

Memorial donations may be made in Gib's name to The Wounded Warrior Project.
