He was predeceased by : his parents, Elizabeth Demerkt and Stephen Van Demerkt; his wife Ellen; his daughter Betsy Shirley; and his siblings, Louise Lowry, Harriet Saxton, Herb and Eugene Van Demerkt.

He is survived by : his children, Steve Van Demerkt (Catherine) and Nancie Hart (Michael); and his grandchildren, Danny and Erin.
