He was predeceased by: his parents, William Mellendorf and Mary Mellendorf (Bergmann); his sisters, Ruth Groth and Marlene Stuckemeyer; and his siblings-in-law, Ed Groth, Dale Kearney and Norma Tipsword.
He is survived by: his wife Vera L. Mellendorf of Louisville; his children, John Mellendorf (Cathy) of Altamont, James'Jim' Mellendorf (Marilyn) of Altamont, Linda Ludwig (Rick) of Wheeler and Nancy Budde (Darren) of Altamont; his sister Karen Kearney of Mattoon; his brother-in-law Garold Stuckemeyer of Altamont; and his grandchildren, Bridgette Ludwig-Colvin (Eric), Jacob Ludwig, Nathan Budde, Darrel Mellendorf, Beccah Ludwig and Derick Budde. He is also survived by 6 step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Monday, September 22nd 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. John's Lutheran Church (17684 E 1st Ave, Louisville, IL 62858). A funeral service was held on Monday, September 22nd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Monday, September 22nd 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Union Cemetery (10641 County Rd 300 E, Altamont, IL 62411).
Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
