She was predeceased by: her parents, Arthur Smith and Della Smith of Macomb; her sisters, Lola Smith, Evelyn Smith and Dorthy Sandoz; and her son Michael.

She is survived by: her husband Lavon Chaplin; and her children, Carolyn (Rodney), Roger, Sharon and Julia. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild.
