Jessica-Christine M. Gunia Obituary

Age 45 of Morris, Illinois, died Saturday, September 6, 2025 at her home.

Born December 9, 1979 in Chicago, Illinois, Jessica-Christine is a daughter of John and Mary (Freeman) Gunia. She was raised in Chicago and Corona, California, and graduated from Lake Elsinore Union High School. Jessica-Christine furthered her education by completing her Bachelor's Degree in Education at Cal State Fullerton, and made her way back to Illinois where she gained employment and was currently teaching at Joliet Central High School. She recently had completed a Master's Degree at Lewis University, expanding her studies and expertise in the subject of Child Development, which was her passion as an educator.

Jessica-Christine was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morris where she was active in several groups. Being outside in nature was her happy place, where she enjoyed working in her garden, kayaking, and raising her honeybees. Jessica-Christine was most happy when she was with her family, especially her children. She radiated kindness and compassion, sharing her optimism and love with any who crossed her path.

Survivors include her parents, John and Mary Gunia of Channahon, Illinois; three children: Daniel Staggs of Oro Valley, Arizona, Aurora Staggs of La Salle, Illinois, and Gregory Staggs of Morris; and numerous extended relations.

Per Jessica-Christine's wishes, cremation rites are being accorded.

The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 600 East Jackson Street, in Morris on Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of memorial services at 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Jason Stone presiding and assisted by Deacon Paul Jung.

Inurnment will follow at Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Morris.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Jessica-Christine's memory to the Immaculate Conception 175 Campaign.
