He was predeceased by: his parents, Q. B. Mitchell and Harriet Mitchell (Young); and his siblings, Q. B. Mitchell, Jr. (Bud), Andy Mitchell, Johnny Mitchell and Betty Jane Mitchell.
He is survived by: his wife Cyndy; his children, Jamie Carroll (Ted) of Carmichael and Mark Mitchell (Sarah) of San Jose; his brother Jim Mitchell of Carmi; his grandchildren, Katie Mitchell, Gigi Mitchell and Hayden Carroll; his mother-in-law Lou Glenn; and his sister-in-law Sammeye Winesburg of McAlester. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
