He was predeceased by: his parents, Alma Pearl Fitzpatrick Smith and Newton Dee Smith; his grandparents, James Fitzpatrick and Lilly Belle Cobb Fitzpatrick; and his siblings, Newt Jr., James Smith, Bessy and Lil.
He is survived by: his wife Twila Jean Walker; his brother William Thomas Smith; his sons, Jerry Smith (Tammy) of Vandalia, Kevin Smith (Charlene) of Hull and Mike Smith (Stephanie) of Mount Sterling, Illinois; and his grandchildren, Heath Smith (Jamie) of Hull, Eric Smith (Tiffany) of Cordon, Victoria Berg (Bryson) of New Canton, April Gingerich (Micah) of Rockville, Michael Smith (Brittany) of Brillion, Autumn Smith of Quincy and Meagan Scranton (Brandon) of Mount Sterling. He is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 12th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Shearer Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Illinois Veteran's Home.
