He was predeceased by: his parents, Tony Piovano and Genevieve Piovano; and his brothers-in-law, Victor Popelka and Robert Johnson. He is survived by: his wife Carol Piovano; his sons, Scott Piovano (Heidi Snow) and Adam Piovano (Theresa Piovano); his grandchildren, Lucas Piovano, Isabella Piovano and Mia Piovano; his pet Bailey; his sister Corrine Popelka; his nephew Victor Popelka; his niece Brittany Johnson; and his parents-in-law, Erwin and Helen Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joseph's memory may be made to Wounded Warriors.

“I was saddened to hear of Joe's passing. We were next-door neighbors and schoolmates throughout grade school, high-school and beyond. We even shared a party line with the Piovano family for a while. I didn't have contact with Joe until the creation of Facebook. We spoke every now and then, and caught up on our lives. I will always remember playing Red Rover, Statue Maker, and all the other games we used to play. RIP, Joe.”
