He was predeceased by : his parents, Harold M. Hartwig and Lottie J. Hartwig (Kapusta) of Lombard, Illinois; and his brothers, Jerome C. Hartwig of Rochelle and Robert H. Hartwig of Dixon, Illinois.. He is survived by : his children, Jeffrey C. Hartwig of Rochelle, Illinois, Laura A. Winnett (David) of Novato, California and Debra L. Hartwig of Rochelle, Illinois; his granddaughter Megan E. Winnett; his daughters, Chloe J. Winnett and Gabrielle C. Winnett; and his former life partner Kathleen M. Hartwig Verbeck (Stenquist). He is also survived by extended family and great friends.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, May 11th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Chapel Hill Gardens West Funeral Home (201 Roosevelt Rd, Villa Park, IL 60181). A reception was held on Saturday, May 11th 2024 at 12:30 PM at the same location.
