He was predeceased by: his parents, Dale Mills and Anna Mills (Ubben); his son Jerry "Grit" Mills; his grandson Kevin Mills; his brother Vernyl; and his sister-in-law Nancy Mills.

He is survived by: his wife Donna L. Christen; his children, Randy Mills (Kris) and Cathy Mills (Dean Almquist); and his grandchildren, Ryan Mills (Ashley) and Sara Mills.
