He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Bence and Elizabeth Bence (Stevens); his son Howard "Howie" Bence; his brother Robert Bence; and his siblings-in-law, Oliver Harris, Ronald Greening, Dale Sissel, Richard Whitaker and Sandra Whitaker Greening.
He is survived by: his wife Diane Whitaker of Peru; his son Peter Bence (Shari) of Princeton; his grandchildren, Nicole Bence, Jeremy Bence, Kayla Mantooth (Russell), Christopher Bence (Suzanne), Curtis Bence (Rosa), Ashleigh Fenelus (Roosevelt) and Zachary Bence (Eileen); his sisters, Barbara Harris of Amboy and Mary Sissel of Princeton; and his sister-in-law Mary Bence of Granville. He is also survived by several great grandchildren.
