He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Slaney and Antonia Slaney; his sister Elizabeth Pickett (Kevin); and his brother-in-law Jim Howlett. He is survived by: his wife Edith Slaney; his children, Lori Hudson (Scott), Leanne Greeley (Darren) and Robert Slaney (Alison); his grandchildren, Leah Hudson and Amos Obed; his stepgranddaughter Sarah Fowler; his siblings, John Slaney (Veronica), Edward Slaney (Carmelita), Gertrude Brockerville (Kevin), Sarah Rennie (Julian), Phyllis Belanger (Marcel) and Carmel Howlett; and his father-in-law John.
