He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Paterson and Anne Paterson; his siblings, Barbara, Rick and Don; and his former wife Marjorie (Ross).

He is survived by: his sons, Robert Paterson (Gale), John Paterson (Janet) and David Paterson (Tracey); and also Barbara.
