He was predeceased by : his father Frederick W. Hiatt. He is survived by : his mother Mary C. "Katy" Hiatt (McCabe) of DeKalb; his siblings, Kathy Hiatt of DeKalb, Dan Hiatt (Teresa) of DeKalb and Pat Hiatt of DeKalb; and his aunt Virginia of Chicago.
