He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Stanley F. and Martha; his wife Joan; his children, Annette Yassen (Thomas), Richard Schmidt (Karen) and Michael Schmidt (Diane); and his grandchildren, Madelyn Batey (Jason), Suzanne Yassen, Marjorie Peck (Austin), Henry, Heidi, Keira and Kailyn Schmidt.
