He is survived by: his children, Michael Nelson (Clara) and Rachel Olivia Nelson White (Mark); his grandchildren, Emily, Hannah, Kimberly, Katherine and Kiara; and his brothers, Dr. Robert J. Nelson and Leonard A. Nelson (Tina).
