He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul F. Ashton and Mary Louise Ashton (Tietz); his son Jason Ashton; and his brothers, Fred Ashton and Edward Ashton, Sr..

He is survived by: his wife Patricia "Trish" Coffey; his son Scott Ashton of Springfield; his grandson Zach Ashton (Lex Schubert) of Springfield; his great grandchild Rory Ashton; and his siblings, Paulette Dumonceaux (Gary) of Rochester and Frank Ashton (Karol) of Springfield. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
