He was predeceased by : his parents, Clarence DeFrees and Helen DeFrees (Setzer); his son-in-law Ron Pohlod; and his siblings, James DeFrees, Ken "Kam" DeFrees, Robert DeFrees, Mary Ferguson, John DeFrees and William "Jake" DeFrees.

He is survived by : his wife Judy Amell August of Streator; his daughters, Debbie Pohlod of Streator and Paula DeFrees of Elmhurst, IL; his granddaughters, Lexi Pohlod and Casey Danko; his great grandchild Mackenzie Valent; and his siblings, Gerald DeFrees of Pontiac and Helen Abry of Odell, IL.

Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.
