He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles "Chuck" and Shirley Welsh Melton; his sister Sharon Vancil Swigart; and his nephew Stephen Vancil. He is survived by: his wife Constance M. "Connie" Kuschel; his sons, Michael Melton (Amie) of Washington and Bradley Melton (Bonny) of Springfield; his grandchildren, Ashley Melton, Ryan Melton and Jacob Stoffle; his sister Linda Baker (Carl); and his niece Laurie Vancil of Galesburg.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Illinois Cancer Care or American Diabetes Association.
