She was predeceased by : her former life partner Kenneth J. "Buster" Dougherty; her son Joseph Doughtery; her siblings, Karen Schreder (Albert) and Larry Dean Swonger; and her brother-in-law Tommy Shields.

She is survived by : her husband Joe Van of Riet; her children, Jeff Dougherty (Tracy), Kim Gool (Mike), Pam Messmer (Joe) and Tricia Durbin; her stepdaughters, Zoe Weakly (Ray), Angie Gregson (Will), Susan Novack (John) and Jill Wehrheim (Glenn); her grandchildren, Megan, Shannon, Joey Dougherty, Cory, Josh, Ryan Gool, Mindy Kramer (Dave), Nathan Messmer (Chelsea), Austin Messmer, Blake and Emma Durbin; her great grandchildren, Abby and Elsie; and her sisters, Charlene Van (Jim) of Riet and Neda Shields. She is also survived by 7 step grandchildren; 9 step great grandchildren.
