He was predeceased by : his father William Downing; his grandparents, Roland Bohnert and Lorinda Bohnert; his parent-in-law Edith Crayton; and also Edward Crayton.

He is survived by : his spouse Deborah Downing of Waterman, IL; his child Heather Braffet (Terry) of Earlville, IL; his parent Avadell Downing of Sycamore, IL; his siblings, Roger Downing (Deb) of Hinckley, IL, Robert Downing (April) and Linda Carlson (Tom); his brothers, Duck Wielert, Crappie Rissman, Cosmo Moisa, Fro Braffet, Ready Smith and Claw Gum; and also Beer Creek. He is also survived by husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and many dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, his girls have set up a memorial fund to support three things Dean was passionate about, the Wounded Warrior Project, , and the Cabin in the Woods.
