She was predeceased by: her children, Louise "Sissie" Charleston, Patricia Brown, Wilson "Pete" Charleston and Johnny Brown; her grandchildren, Da'Ron, Shavae Brown, Gary, Ricky Charleston, Troy Clark, Sonya Freeman and Tara Lee; her son-in-law Charles Young; and her siblings, Viola Banks, Annie Charleston, Martha Scott, Leona Maye, Dura, Selton and Simon Wheeler Sr. A Celebration.
She is survived by: her husband Joe E. Charleston Sr.; her children, Willie Smith (Jerry) of Beach Park, IL, Lurena Charleston of Waukegan, IL, Shirley Young of Waukegan, IL, Kathleen Jones (Douglas) of Waukegan, IL and Joe (Brenda); her sister Sarah Smith of Detroit, MI; her niece Lucy; and her sister-in-law Dorothy Wheeler of Detroit, MI.. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and cousins.
She laid a solid foundation for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
