He was predeceased by: his parents, Cortus Tonyes and Catherine Tonyes (Graham); and his stepdaughter Debra Shuck. He is survived by: his wife Carol Tonyes (Elkins); his sons, Mike Tonyes (Debbie) of Pendleton and Brad Tonyes (Stephanie) of Indianapolis; his stepdaughters, Diana Haskins (Paul) of Knox and Donna Patterson of Anderson; his grandchildren, Scott Safford (Amanda) and Kelli Mirgeaux (Jonathan); his great grandchildren, Kennedy Safford, Cooper Safford, Miles Mirgeaux and Cora Mirgeaux; and his stepgrandchildren, Shay, Chris, Jason, Jesse, Todd, Ryan, Hope, Cassie and Nikki. He is also survived by fourteen step great-grandchildren; and three step great-great-grandchildren.
