She was predeceased by: her parents, Irvin Schott and Callie Schott (Corwin); her husband Carl Hazelwood; and her brothers-in-law, Charles Hazelwood and Winston Holt.
She is survived by: her children, William "Bill" Irvin Hazelwood (Erin) and Bernice Lynn Essick (Thomas) of Batesville, IN; her grandsons, Levi and Wyatt Essick; her sisters-in-law, Janet Holt and JoAnne Hazelwood; her nieces and nephews, Char Lussier (Jacques), Marge Richardson (Rod), Chris Hazelwood (Dennis Murphy), Lisa Brown (Kenny), Charles Hazelwood (Katie) and Keith Hazelwood (Ann); and her friends, Jama and Jorja Cleghorn. She is also survived by many great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 9th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Weigel Funeral Home (151 W George St, Batesville, IN 47006). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 10th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
In honor of Bertha's lifelong commitment to student athletics, memorial contributions may be made to the Batesville Athletic Boosters for the purchase of new concession equipment—an area of special meaning to Bertha and those who served alongside her.
