He was predeceased by: his parents, Frances Schiffli (Hoffelder) and Emil Schiffli; his wife Edith Ann Schiffli; his nephew David Layer; and his nephew-in-law Eddie Pendry.

He is survived by: his sibling's children, Ann Marie Hooten (Dave), Tina Hauer, Karen Layer Pendry, Mark Hauer (Gabi), Janice Layer McCartney (Vince), Melissa Vermillion (Dan) and Bryan Layer (Cheryl). He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews and extended family.
