He was predeceased by : his parents, John Reed and Nannie Rose Reed; his former life partner Maydell Reed; and his siblings, Ruby Cherback, Mary Francis Blount, Fred Reed, Morris T. Reed, John H. Reed and Paul C. Reed.

He is survived by : his wife Murl Reed of Savannah, Tennessee; his stepchildren, James Hunt, Bobby Hunt, Paul Hunt, Brenda Qualls and Sandra Herndon; his brother Gene Allen Reed; his grandchildren, Jennifer Dodd (Brent), Jason Conrad (Suzanne) and John Reed Odom; and his great grandchild Alexander Conrad. He is also survived by 13 step grandchildren, 18 step great grandchildren, and 5 step great-great grandchildren.

The family requests that masks be worn, and social distancing be practiced at both the visitation and the funeral service.
