He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Mack Pittenger, Sr. and Jeannett Shultz; his son Van Patrick Pittenger; and his sister Tamara Arnold. He is survived by: his partner Gail Strickland; and his children, Lance Pittenger (Kristi Mader), Tim Pittenger (Sheila), Dede Amburgey (Ellis), Jody Pittenger (Mandy), Shane DeBolt, Colby DeBolt (Shawn Schultis) and Caleb DeBolt (Amy). He is also survived by eight grandchildren, three chosen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two chosen great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, January 17th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the VFW Post 5582 (415 E Chicago St, Columbia City, IN 46725).
