It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Carol Lucille Fortner (Columbus, Indiana), who passed away on January 29, 2023, at the age of 95, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by : her mother Crystal Lucille Smith (Pierce); her husband Harold Erwin Fortner; her son Preston Zane Fortner; her stepson Michael Fortner; her great grandchildren, Broderick Bass and Kegan Beckemeyer; and her sisters, Claire Mae Settle, Cletha Faye Bird and Charlotte Anne Smith.

She is survived by : her father Cecil Almon Smith; her children, Alice Elaine Bass (Fortner) of Indianapolis, Stephen Arthur Fortner (Rita Fortner) of Poplar Bluff, Judith Ellen Villegas (Fortner) of Indianapolis, Rose Sharon Thompson (Fortner) of Minneapolis and Sheila Kay Fortner of Greenwood; and her stepdaughter Diana McRae (Fortner) of Hudson, Florida.. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
