He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Gearhart and Alta Brinker Gearhart; and his brothers, Gerald Gearhart, Lee Gearhart, Kenneth Gearhart and Jack Gearhart.

He is survived by: his wife Carol Ferrenburg; his children, Sandra Johnson (David), Cathi Chavis (Paul Hurt) and David Gearhart; his grandchildren, Autumne Streeval (Justin), Amanda Kerkhof (Eric) and Ben Johnson (Melissa); his great grandchildren, Stella Streeval, Madelyn Streeval, Oliver Kerkhof, Isaac Kerkhof, Alex Kerkhof, Ella Kerkhof, Haley Johnson and Sidney Johnson; and his siblings, Richard Gearhart of Columbus, James Abney of Columbus, Jeanne Abney of Franklin and Nanci Sester (John) of Seymour. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
