He was predeceased by: his parents, Frederick Oliver and Shirley Wilson Poling. He is survived by: his wife Judy Smith; his children, Russell Martin (April) and Ashley Poling; his grandchildren, Kennedy and Ashton Williams; and his brothers, Frederick (Christine) and John Poling (Lueshell). He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Russell's name to the Gary Sinise Foundation.
