He was predeceased by: his wife Linda Patterson; his parents, Harry Patterson and Addie Patterson; and his grandson Nathaniel Merkel. He is survived by: his children, Kimberly Ritchie, Ronald Merkel (Alena), Timothy Merkel (Mandy) and Elizabeth Wilson (Kelly); his grandchildren, Andrew Merkel (Lauri), Nicholas Merkel (Ashleigh), Bryan Hamm (Kori), Erin Hamm, Adam Merkel, Evan Merkel, Laura Chira (Javier), Audrey Wilson, Brycen Wilson and Danika Ritchie; his great grandchildren, Harrison Merkel, Theodore Merkel, Hayden Vetter, Ella Hamm, Olivia Rosenwinkel, Elijah Chira and Ensley Chira; and his brother Bruce Patterson (Kathy).
