James left this world on November 6, 2025 at the age of 97, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. He was predeceased by: his parents, Olo Dukes and Ella Frances Dukes (Durham); his wife Freda Seacat Dukes; his daughter Tina Marie Dukes; his stepsons, Danny Jones and Ricky Jones; and his siblings, Virginia Linnie, Dorothy Clark, Carmen Elliott, John Dukes, William "Bill" Duke, Roberta Barnwall and Norma Bright.
He is survived by: his sons, Tony A. Dukes of Depauw and Timothy E. Dukes of Mt. Pleasant, Indiana; and his siblings, Charles "Butch" Dukes of Milltown, Indiana and Lula Mae VanWinkle of Milltown, Indiana. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Monday, November 10th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, November 11th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Brown Funeral Home (306 Spring St, Milltown, IN 47145). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, November 11th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
