She was predeceased by: her husband Anthony "Tony" Horvatich; and her parents, Wilford Karl and Julia Ruth Karl. She is survived by: her daughters, Karen Horvatich, Diane Kistinger (George) and Joann Gerike (Mike); her grandchildren, Sarah (Justin), Julie, Michael and Amy; her great grandchild Owen; and her siblings, Richard Karl and Mary Lou Eismin (Nick).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Shirley's name to Hospice of the Calumet Area.
